Today's show 04/10/11

Oh good, you're back. And that other bloke, you know... him... Paddy something..., has vanished back in to the obscurity from whence he came. I have suggested Jeremy Clarkson as a good stand-in for you when you are away, but that suggestion was ignored, so here is another one for you: Noel Gallagher. I'd listen to him!

Interesting to see that you are continuing to ignore the Conservative Party Conference taking place this week. Three days out of three for INCLUDING an item about Labour last week. Knowing the BBC's corporate left-wing anti-government stance, I would expect nothing less than for you to achieve three days out of three for EXCLUDING the Tories this week. So go on, prove me wrong!

Instead, we have these lightweight topics to delight us today. One of your Twitter followers summed up today's selection nicely: Judging by the lightweight subjects you've gone with today, I assume Barbie's yellow shoe has turned up....

1) KNOX VERDICT - Amanda Knox is found not guilty of the murder of Meredith Kercher. As the Knox family and the Kercher family both return home, we look at the world from their different perspectives : Have you got members of both families in the studio? If not, how are you going to do that then? Oh, I know, you'll make it up. And why are you absolutely obsessed with this case? Your personal agenda is playing a part here, I feel. Next...

2) DRONES - Pilotless aircraft such as the drone are now a key weapon used by America in modern warfare. How do they work and are they morally justified? : What, like the one that flew in to the Pentagon on 9/11? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1aBFbyN7xY
) As for how they work, well God help your listeners as I know that they are more complicated than an oil-fired central heating system, and we all know how badly that went wrong back in January. I am absolutely lost for words about how irrelevant this topic must be to 60+ million of the UK population, but I do know that the RAF used to fly drones from a base near me although I've not seen one for a while. I feel sure the USA Department of Defence will be listening to your every word, ready to take them out of service just as soon as you say they should. Next...

3) TUBE DRIVERS - London Underground drivers could be earning over £50,000 a year. Their union leader is Bob Crow. Would you like him representing you? : No. I used to be a member of the RMT and then I heard Crow speaking on the radio one day. Before he had finished speaking I had cancelled my membership and destroyed my membership card. You made several comments about tube drivers earning £50,000 a year on Twitter yesterday evening, so I knew you would cover this story today. Despite this being radio for London and the South East and completely irrelevant to anybody who doesn't go to London, there is a pot-kettle-black issue to consider as well. The BBC have recently agreed new MINIMUM pay rates for their staff (http://www.allbusiness.com/labor-employment/working-hours-patterns-work-week/16694821-1.html
with the WEEKLY RATE details on page 2) and they are worthy of consideration too. Oh, to be a costume designer at the BBC and earn a MINIMUM of £1248 PER WEEK (annual salary £64896), or a sound recordist at £1313 PER WEEK (annual salary £68276) with all of the stress and specialised training that those roles require. Just like a tube train driver then, or do you think that any idiot can do that? Your personal agenda is shining through again Jeremy! Next...

4) PARKING - Finally, Lancashire County Council is going to fine drivers who don’t park very well : Sounds like a good plan. As you and your people now seem to be incapable (or prohibited) from putting newspaper links on your web page, I'll provide this one: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/burnley/9285155.Warning_for_motorists_as_new_Lancashire_parking_rules_come_into_force/
and will bear this in mind if and when I ever go to Lancashire again, but I need no further details.

The Jeremy Vine Show - personal agendas a speciality.

UPDATE:

Will has just posted the most brilliant comment on this posting, so good that I am going to repeat it here for all to see. Well said Will!

Hi All,

I emailed JV earlier on Vine@bbc.co.uk but also BCC it to Jeremy.Vine@bbc.co.uk which as JV once told me is his personal email email account for the BBC.It wasnt hard to work out JV.So I sent it to that as well.I'll provide a copy here for your reading

"Hi Jeremy,

While discussing the Tube pay deal,I take it that you will disclose what you are paid per year by the BBC,which as Im sure you will not forget is funded by the BBC licence payers.A tax which is forced onto the UK Public. If I had the choice to not pay for the BBC or only subscribe to selected channels then I wouldnt mind but Im not given that chance am I so unfortunately part of my Licence Fee that Im forced to pay goes towards your show and your salary.

So come on Jeremy what are you paid in the year 2011 as in 2002 then you were paid £250,000 !!! http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2002/jul/08/mediatop100200288 Using your example of Nurses and Soldiers is a disgrace considering what you contribute to society.

As has been proved then life doesn't stop when you aren't at the BBC,if fact its better although Im sure Paddy what's his name is put on to try to make you look good although no matter how bad a presenter they put on to replace you then that's not going to happen.

So come on Jeremy, what do you earn a year?? What ever it is for the job you do its too much,as a Tube Driver is alot more Technical based than sitting on a desk with a script telling you what you are going to say(so all you have to do is read it). Hopefully Martin McGuiness will sue you.You are bottom of the ladder but yet payed the highest of the examples you set out.

As you are know for your biased views then I dont expect you to have the guts to tell your listeners what you earn and as always your producer will always put only the views though that agree with yours.

I'll be submitting a complaint through to the BBC regarding your show.

You are building up quite a fan club at http://lunchtimeloather.blogspot.com/ Your show is now consistently daily well below the standard of Richard Bacon's Show on 5 live and that can be terrible on a regular basis.

Regards."

Ive also posted on R2 facebook page asking the same question and directing them to the JV Appreciation Society.Ive also posted the link to BBC pay document.Lets see how long it actually stays up there? Freedom of Speech??"

Hopefully Bob Crow will ask Jeremy How much he is paid? I was a member of the RMT and left nearly a 1 yr ago when I did a bit of research before the election and found out that Bob&RMT were good friends with my local Labour MP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McDonnell_(politician) who supported the IRA's actions. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2003/may/30/northernireland.devolution
He wasnt misquoted and after finding that out,I wouldnt vote for him, cancelled my RMT membership and if anyone asks me why I tell them why,Funnily enough that always seems to be the end of the conversation for some reason??

Cheers for the honour of being on the front page :-)

Well no mention of what he is payed but I did find this and in 2009 then it was thought he was on 1 Million for his R2 Show and 250,000 for Panorama which I never watch but have seen the beginning at times and JV does a 30 second introduction and that's it??? 250,000 for that !!!

Keep at it JV and you will be fighting for the No.1 spot with James Cordon in the W*****r list.

Loved the Barbie comment,This site frequently makes me laugh out loud generally while on the bus :-)

Funnily enough all the comments have mysteriously disappeared from Facebook.

Freedom of Speech is dead on the BBC!!

For the 1st time in years I find myself listening to BBC London and one of the subjects again is Tube Drivers Pay but yet again the presenter doesnt seem to want to admit how much they are payed by the BBC.Below is an email I sent to Eddie Nestor who was on the air at the time asking him what he earns? Granted they did actually read out the email on the air so will give them that and then he side stepped and just carried on.If you didnt know he was a Radio DJ then you would have thought he was a MP the way he avoided the question.

Bit Ironic saying Nurses are only paid £26,000 when you compare it to a tube driver but a Radio DJ is on more than both of them.

Even this blogging software is biased towards the government as the word verfication Ive had to put in to send this was "tories" :-)

"Hi,

Thanks for reading my email and reading it out on air so thanks for that. However Eddie didnt answer the question? Is he prepared to air the amount of salary that he earns to his listeners?. How about a phone in of him saying what he earns and the listeners which are licence fee payers comment on whether he is worth it?

I will say that if Eddie needs to apply for another job in the future then a job as an MP would suit him as the way he avoided the question was just like an MP in question time.

Thanks

Will.

Hi Eddie,

Quick Question for you? How much are you Paided by the BBC for doing your show? Im sure it's going to be more than £50,000 ? Are you worth it? Also who doing you think is doing a more worthwhile job? A Radio Presenter pressing a few buttons for a few Hours a day payed for not by choice but by a Tax that the people of the UK dont have a choice of paying but a Tax they are forced to pay or you are comitting an offence! I have a choice to not travel on the Tube but yet if I dont want to watch BBC or listen to BBC programmes then I still have to fund the services as I still require a licence even if I want to avoid all BBC output?

I quote below a comment from a blog on the internet and would be interested in your views.

"The BBC have recently agreed new MINIMUM pay rates for their staff (http://www.allbusiness.com/labor-employment/working-hours-patterns-work-week/16694821-1.html with the WEEKLY RATE details on page 2) and they are worthy of consideration too. The discussion between George Galloway snd funnily enough a Daily Mail Blogger :-) Good on Jeremy to not disappoint.

The only time GG has come out well in any discussion and Im no fan.The Blogger should have taken the golden spoon out of his gob and the Ipad out of his arse that was making him talk like that.
